Lung Census. 4 - 15 October 2010.
COPD is a leading cause of death and disability affecting more than 2,000,000 Australians, but is undiagnosed in 50% of sufferers.1,2 These undiscovered cases constitute a large reservoir of Australians who would benefit from timely intervention and appropriate management.
To address the deficit and highlight this important issue in 2010 - the ‘Year of the Lung’ - Australia’s first collaborative ‘Lung Census’ will be undertaken between 4 - 15 October 2010 to support and promote Global Test Your Lungs Day (14 October).
Representing the largest screening of lung function to be undertaken in Australia, the ‘Lung Census’ aims to screen the lung health of at least 50,000 people aged 18 years and over. This major initiative will raise national awareness of the importance and simplicity of lung function testing, and place the earlier recognition of COPD firmly on Australia’s health agenda.
