Terminology change for texture modified diets and thickened fluids
From May, patients transferred from Melbourne Health (MH) into your care requiring texture modified foods or fluids, will be discharged on diets that are consistent with the “Australian Standardised Terminology for Texture Modified Foods and Fluids”.
This is with the aim of minimising confusion that may place patients/residents at risk. The old MH term, nectar, is replaced by ‘mildly thick’. MH term honey, is replaced by ’moderately thick’. MH term pudding is replaced by ‘extremely thick’. Terminology for Texture Modified Food remains unchanged and is consistent with the new standards (i.e. soft, minced and pureed).
If you require further information, please contact the MH Nutrition or Speech Pathology Departments on 9342 7440, or log onto www.daa.asn.au . Then click on “information for health professionals”.
