National Skin Cancer Action Week is November 20-26, 2011.

The week puts the spotlight on skin cancer and is hosted by Cancer Council and the Australasian College of Dermatologists. Skin cancers are by far the most common cancers managed by GPs, accounting for over 80% of all cancers diagnosed in Australia and more than 1830 deaths annually.

Over 95% of skin cancers can be successfully treated if found early and GPs play a crucial role in early diagnosis and treatment.

SunSmart’s online active learning module (ALM) helps GPs deliver best skin cancer advice. Created by Cancer Council Victoria (SunSmart and Primary health program), in conjunction with ThinkGP, the Category 1, RACGP/ACRRM accredited ALM is available nationally on the ThinkGP website at www.thinkgp.com.au. The online course comprises of three modules - biopsy techniques, skin cancer prevention and vitamin D awareness, diagnosis and management of non-melanoma skin cancers and diagnosis and management of melanoma.
