Pakistan Flood Emergency: Call for GP Volunteers to join AusAID for 30 day deployment.

Pakistan has accepted the Australian Government’s offer of humanitarian and health care assistance in response to the worse monsoon-related floods in living memory. The need is for primary care, maternal and child health and midwifery care.
GPV is assisting the Department of Health to establish a register of GPs who are interested in volunteering for a 30 day deployment to Kot Addu (North of Multan in Punjab Province). Teams consisting of the Australian Defence Force and civilians will be deployed approximately every 15 days for a 30 day deployment. This work will commence as soon as possible and continue until no longer required.
GP volunteers will be working under the auspice of AusAID and will receive remuneration from the Department of Health Victoria. Insurances are covered by the auspicing bodies. The work will be conducted in a health compound and security will be provided by the Pakistan Military.
Conditions will be austere and hot: 30°C overnight with maximum day time temperatures between 45-50°C and 90% humidity.
Other considerations
• Volunteers will need a current passport with six months validity
• Clinicians willing to volunteer should be or be willing to be vaccinated for the following:
• Polio
• Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
• Pertussis
• Tetanus
• Rabies
• Hepatitis (A and B) • Meningococcal
• Seasonal Influenza
• Typhoid
• Cholera
• Japanese Encephalitis (JE)
• Consideration of current mantoux status is desired and also a willingness to undertake prophylaxis for Malaria. There will be no costs to the GPs for the vaccinations
