The Federal Government has subsidised nicotine replacement therapy for smokers by placing it on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) from the 1st of February 2011.
In addition to this, from February 1st, Champix is available for an additional 12-weeks of subsidised therapy per year. That’s on top of the already available 12-weeks, taking the maximum subsidised course to 24-weeks per year. Patients will need to return to their doctor to get their second 12-week course of treatment.
