Sending a child to the Emergency Department?
Before sending to the RCH Emergency Department – please call first on 9345 7060 and tell the doctor:
- WHY you’re sending to the emergency department, and why TODAY
- Whether admission is likely and
- Why RCH rather than a more local ED. Please always consider a more local ED first.
As well as providing clinical advice, the ED staff may be able to help with alternatives such as an OPD appointment or timing of investigations.

- Lab results after an E.D. visit – please call the RCH lab on 9345 7060. The number is also at the end of the ED discharge letter. Please don’t call the E.D.
