Bowel Screening

Bowel Cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in Australia, around 1 in 12 people will get bowel cancer at some point in their lifetime(1) . However, bowel cancer screening is still something people don’t like to talk about. Research has identified the lack of GP endorsement as a significant factor in people’s decision not complete a Faecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) kits(2).

Bowel Cancer Screening Program

The Melbourne General Practice Network’s (MGPN) Bowel Screening Program aims to increase GP’s awareness and achieve a sustained increase in FOBT ordering for all patients aged 50 and over, in accordance with NHMRC and RACGP guidelines.
