National Prescribing Service Program

Provides the following initiatives to GPs: 

  • Academic Detailing (educational visits) to GPs in surgery
    Visits can be arranged to suit individual time to discuss recent independent evidence for prescribing in many therapeutic areas. Visits are accredited as Quality Prescribing Initiatives (QPI) for PIP & CME points for the RACGP are applied for.   • Clinical Audits and Case Studies
    Earn QA points and QPI for PIP by participating in these NPS activities. Details on the NPS web site
  • RADAR (Rational Assessment of Drugs and Research)
    - an online service from NPS providing information about new medicines and changes to PBS listings that are important to GPs.
    - When new clinical research that will strongly influence how you manage your patients' health is published, commentaries on what the research means to you and your patients will be offered.
    - Free email updates are available. Register your details at RADAR
  • Home Medication Review - MBS item 900

    GP referral service to patient's usual pharmacy arranging for a pharmacist home
    visit to review the patient's medication management and report findings to the GP for a formal medication chart to be drawn up, with the patient's (or carer's) involvement.
    Referral and medication chart forms are available from the Division.
    Templates are available on GP software programs
